Simple Ruins

Photo of Completed Ruins - Click to EnlargeThese simple ruins are terrain pieces that anyone can easily make.

They basically use any scraps of corrugated cardboard that you have lying around and if you’re like me you’ll have a lot of it.

First you draw the shape of the ruin onto the cardboard, then cut out the parts with a sharp knife or scissors and glue any joins together with PVA glue.

When the glue is set, then stick masking tape on the edges to cover over any holes or gaps in the cardboard and mount it onto it base, the can also be made of cardboard but I would recommend using something a bit more sturdier like hardboard or thin MDF (I personally use hardboard) for the base.

Once the piece is glued to its base, paint the walls with textured paint, if you don't have textured paint you could use ready mixed wall filler or mix up your own textured paint by mixing some old acrylic or emulsion paint with sand.

Next was to add some rumble around the ruin, using pre-made sprue rubble, paint PVA glue on to areas of the bases and scatter sprue rubble onto the glue and left it to dry before painting it.

As for painting the ruins, paint the walls dark grey, highlight with lighter shades of grey and add scorch damage with layers of black and brown paint.

You see, nice and easy ruins that anyone can make.
